The skin is spontaneously renewed every 28 days or so. Diseased or dead cells are naturally replaced by new and perfect cells. However, over time this natural renewal takes longer. As a result, the skin begins to show signs of dryness and low oxygenation. By not replacing dead cells, the skin Withers and looks dull and aged. Exfoliation ensures effective regeneration by allowing the skin to become more permeable and ready to absorb nutrients and active substances from moisturizing and rejuvenating products. Likewise stimulates cellular oxygenation.
As stated in the article “the origin of soap”, ancient civilizations already used organic and natural sources for skin care.
It is known that the Egyptians, for example, used a soapy paste of ash and clay mixed with natural oils, resulting in a cosmetic resource essence for the highest layers of society. Those soapy pastes, in addition to being used to clean the body, were prescribed by doctors to care for the skin. Today, many of these components are still used, because they have the ability to remove dead skin cells, blackheads, impurities, and fat, elements that tend to clog the pores and prevent the skin to regenerate.
Every 28 days, dermis produces new skin cells that go up the layers of the skin to reach the epidermis, the outermost layer. These cells are pushing the previous ones, already converted into dead cells, to renew them. This process known as “desquamation” in which we are “losing” those cells and is natural in human skin, is invisible to our eyes. Of course, this process, very regular when we are young, becomes slower and more irregular as the years go by as the rate of cellular renewal decreases significantly. This causes dead cells to accumulate in the epidermis, preventing the proper regeneration of the skin, as well as the penetration of the products we apply to it. As a result, the skin looks opaque and lacks luminosity.
The exfoliation, releases those dead cells and gently helps them to detach, giving way to a more radiant skin.
Hence, the importance of regular peeling: on the one hand it helps to stimulate cellular regeneration that happens in the dermis, and, at the same time, it considerably improves the appearance and luminosity of the epidermis. Exfoliation is usually used to improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin, decrease wrinkles, improve acne or chickenpox scars, and even to bleach or remove stains, proving to be an important step in caring for the skin. In addition, periodic exfoliations stimulate the p53 gene, a true “guardian” of the skin against skin cancer.
It is very important that Dead Cells fall completely from the skin, to keep it healthy, visibly fresh, thin and unified in a soft and luminous color. But it must be borne in mind that each skin is different and requires habits, times and products adapted to it. The exfoliation regimen will depend to a large extent on the skin analysis performed by the dermatologist and the results thereof. In spite of this, there are tables that generally indicate this exfoliation regime depending on the type of skin.
For example, facial exfoliation of dry skins should be performed once a week. Sensitive skin, every 10 days and tested before in a small area of the face that is not visible (for example, behind the ears). Acne-free fatty skins can be exfoliated once or twice a week. And, if the skin is very thin and sensitive, exfoliation can be done every 15 days. For its part, how often a body scrub can be done will also depend on how sensitive the skin is, and can be done once or twice a week.
However, it is important to indicate that it is not advisable to exceed in peeling: it would only be possible to irritate the skin and even leave it unprotected. For proper exfoliation, it is advisable to use organic exfoliating products that also contain minerals and very moisturizing assets that, when applied by stimulating and draining massage, significantly improve the quality, appearance, smoothness and luminosity of the skin.
Make exfoliation a regular in the body and on the face is perhaps one of the beauty rituals simpler, more important and at the same time more benefits on the health and brightness of the skin.
