Hi!  My name is Melissa. I started The Cellulite Investigation in 2008, shortly after an ill-fated dressing room experience around the time of my 30th birthday.

Since then I've summoned all my analytic muscle to try to put together the pieces of the cellulite mystery.  What causes it?  Have women always had it?  Is it genetic?  Can exercise get rid of it? What about diet?  What do hormones have to do with it? The list of mysteries goes on.

But this threat isn't about that—it's about ME, introducing myself to YOU. So, let's see. What can I tell you about myself?

You already know my age, since I gave that away in the opening paragraph (not a very feminine thing to do, I suppose).  I live in the United States outside of Washington, DC, although I am optimistic about a swift return to South Florida. I love food.  Good food.  I eat more caviar and imported cheeses than anyone I know.  My television is 20" and my cell is a flip phone with a pull-out antenna.  I'm trying to bring them back into style.

I have one older brother who spent a spell as an organic farmer but threw in the towel when people were upset that his pastured chickens were were too much more expensive than the grocery store brand.  He is now pursuing nursing school instead. It's more profitable to be in the business of sickness than of health.

Which brings me back to the blog.  Investigating health is my passion.  I'm SO excited that you are here to share in the adventure with me.  Please tell me a bit about yourself so I can get to know you, too.

To your good health.  Salvē!

Hi! My name is Tesser; I live in Colorado.  I became interested in skin brushing because of Teresa Tapp's method of cellulite removal & brush almost daily.  I am interested in health, specifically low carb way of eating.

Thanks for being the first to introduce yourself here, Tesser! I didn't realize the posts needed to be moderated. I hope I can turn that off… I didn't know you were a low carber, either. I eat mostly low carb, but I don't think about it too much.  I do like having potatoes or popcorn on occasion.  Sometimes I'll eat bread or even (gasp) pasta, but not on a regular basis. I like my meat and veggies too much to fill up on other things!  This would be a good topic for our food forum: http://www.celluliteinvestigat…..forum/food

Hey, My name is Ann and I am a veteran in the search for the cellulite cure. Like Melissa I had the shock of the appearance of cellulite in my 20's in the dressing room of a dept. store….well I am in my 50's now and have tried everything from juice fasting for detoxing to buying devices from all over the world to deliver me from cellulite. I am petite perfect size 2-4 and never had a weight problem. Most of my life I have been in a solid exercising program, even was an aerobics instructor for a while. I have found some things that made a difference in dealing with cellulite and I will post about them in the forum. I have dedicated this year to going all out in the fight against cellulite so this forum is being started at a great time for me. Here's to a cellulite discovery!!!Wink

Welcome, Ann!  I'm excited that you're joining us!  It will be good to have your perspective on the exercise angle.  I'm already loving the aeropilates thread you've got going.  Can't wait to see what the results will be in 2 months!

I've always been a 2-4 as well.  Never had a problem with weight, and yet the cellulite has been a plague.  You're post just made me think of another question I want to ask here in the forum:  What is your kryptonite?

Thanks for sharing your cellulite-investigating experiences with us, Ann!

Hi, my name is Jenny.  I came across this website while i was searching the internet for ideas on how to solve my cellulite issues and i'm so glad that i did!

I'm 27 and have had cellulite for as long as i can remember.  I've never been overweight; in fact most people would call my skinny but in a curvy way.  I guess I am pretty large in the butt though and my cellulite is pretty bad on my butt and thighs, more so on the side of my thighs than anywhere else.  I seem to have two rather large dimples of fat on the fattest part of my thighs and its really unsightly. It really looks like legs belong on a different body than my top half.  The fattest part even sticks out when i wear tight trousers.

I've had this issue for years and because of it i've always shied away from wearing shorts and bikinis etc.  Being from England this wasn't really and issue, but i just moved to Malibu, CA where i met my husband!  With the summer coming up i don't think i'm going to want to cover up quite so much as i did in the UK.  And all i see here and women with perfect legs wearing the very shortest of shorts

I've always eaten healthily, or so i thought, but after a lot of research i'm wondering if my problem might be too much sugar and not enough essential fats.  I've always kept fat low in my diet but i'm one of these people who eat a lot of foods labelled as 'low fat' and not really acknowledging all the hidden sugars.  So i am about to embark on my full on battle against my cellulite in the following ways

1. Cutting out all refined / added sugars from my diet

2. Increasing the 'good' fats into my diet by eating more nuts and seeds (i'm a vegetarian otherwise i'd add fish too)

3. Adding coconut oil to my diet

4. Daily body brushing

5. I just joined a gym – so an increase in exercise too

Wish me luck! Its so reassuring and comforting to see so many women on here going through the same thing LaughThanks for such an amazing website

Jenny

Welcome, Jenny!  So glad you found us.  Your initial cellulite strategy looks fantastic!  Dry brushing, coconut oil, and cutting our sugar are three powerful moves that could each make a world of difference on their own–it's exciting to think what they could do together.

Increasing other good fats is smart, too.  Are you familiar with the theory behind soaking and sprouting seeds prior to eating them?  Some people claim it deactivates enzyme inhibitors latent in the seeds and makes them more nutritious and digestible.  Here's an article from Mark's Daily Apple with more info:  Soaking Seeds and Nuts

Please keep us updated on your efforts! And feel free to create other topics throughout the forum to share thoughts and ideas about battling the blight.  That's what we're here for!

Howdy… :) My name is Jasmin, and I thought I'd join you. I found the blog while reading more about skin brushing. I have some health issues and skin brushing seems to help. I have used my skin (acne) as a visible way to monitor my health. I'm going to add cellulite to my new list of health meters.

I've been looking into everything related to lymph support lately. I've been doing yoga, skin brushing, and taking a red root tincture. I also try and eat a real-food diet. So far I still have a painfully swollen lymph node, so I don't think it's helping yet. I know it isn't helping in the acne and cellulite department! I want to get the massage cups next. (btw…are the cheap ebay ones an okay compromise?)  I'm plugging my ears and trying to ignore that inner voice that says cut out the coffee.

One (crazy?) place I'm looking into is electromagnetic/rife treatments – http://www.electroherbalism.com. I was totally skeptical, but it does help with killing pathogens. Still, I think it's kind of cooky to try and use it to support and stimulate lymph and blood circulation. There are so many weird claims for rife machines. It's worth a try though… :)

I LOVE the idea of cellulite is a health meter. Great point, Jasmin!  That's exactly how I think of it, too.

Any idea what is causing the swollen lymph node?  That should be a great indicator at least of when your lymphatic system is starting to heal.

The massage cups are fantastic. You'll love them!  I haven't tried any other brand than the Bellabaci cups.  I'm eager to hear what you think of the Ebay ones.  They are worth a try!

At this point in the investigation, nothing sounds totally crazy to me!  I was skeptical of the cups at first and now I can't believe I ever doubted them.  I just remember seeing the pictures of people with the marks on their backs, talking about how the cups were "drawing toxins" out of the body, and it just seemed so strange to me.  Now it makes total sense that they can stimulate lymphatic circulation under the skin by relieving pressure on the lymphatic vessels.  My point is, I'm a big proponent of following your intellectual curiosity to see where it leads.  Please let us know how it goes if you do decide to try the rife treatments!

I'll let you know about the massage cups… I just ordered them yesterday. :) I'm excited…

The swollen lymph node is because of a chronic Lyme disease infection. Too much garbage in my system to keep on top of I guess… I also read the bacteria can actually hide in lymph nodes.

Hello there! My name is Lynn. I'd like to add my case and experiences into the pot, in the hope that it might contribute to our collective sleuthing skills!

I think I've had cellulite since my mid/late teens. I have always been somewhat skinny, but my thighs and bum look like they belong to a different person. I have had reoccurring meltdowns over this, and these meltdowns seem to exacerbate my periodic bouts of depression. Other days, I can get up, and think "ah well. It doesn't affect my skills, so off I go to live my life and aim for success!" But really, it does affect my skills if a meltdown triggers my depression. And thanks to the efforts being made here, I have come around to understanding cellulite as a much more important indicator of overall health.

My other health issues that I am now using as experimental guages are: trouble sleeping, low energy, ecxema, mild acne and the aforementioned periodic depression.

Past treatments: I have tried about four different kinds of creams, it won't be news to anyone here that they didn't work, and I abandoned them once and for all when I noticed that they were causing these little spider veins to creep in around my knees. Does anyone know if spider veins are ever anything other than bad?

Current treatments: A better bedtime routine including drinking water and dry brushing. Foam roller during the day! And when I can manage it, or remember, I give myself a massage with coconut oil and some cayenne pepper mixed in. All of these things feel great never mind any health benefits. I am progressively gearing myself up for some very major diet experiments. I made my first green smoothie today (it was good, yay!)

I can have a hard time staying motivated through major lifestyle changes, especially if I'm slow to see improvement. I know that for myself, positive reinforcement instead of negative reinforcement is a very big deal. Some people have success with using anger at their current state as a motivator, but if that ever works for me, it's not for very long. I find that the anger quickly leads to other negative feelings and voices in my mind. I think love and kind feelings are necessary for the best healing process. It's hard to remember to stay positive about a condition that makes us feel so lousy, but I'm going to try to try to tell myself something like this everyday: "Hello cellulite, thank you for coming to tell me that something isn't going quite right with me. Now let's see what we can do about that."

Hi Kiddo :-) Nice to meet you!

I should try to introduce myself in a more thorough way.

I have probably had some kind of cellulite on the backs of my thighs since I was a teenager. I haven't worn short shorts since I was about 12 years old.

I'm taking lots of digestive enzymes in case I have trouble digesting fats and other foods.  I think I am estrogen dominant, I wonder if that has an effect on cellulite. It would be interesting for us to compare things like the length of our cycle. For many years mine was just 26 days which I think means you have too much estrogen.  Love, SessieSmile

Hello, ladies.  I've been away for a few days but I'm happy to be back.  I just returned from my travels yesterday and I'll let you in on a little secret I haven't posted anywhere else on the blog yet.  I'm engaged!!  My boyfriend and I have been dating for over five years and it's finally time to take the next step. I am so excited!  We haven't set a date yet but it will probably be towards the end of next year.  You can bet I am going to ramp up the investigation even more now (as if launching a global online investigation isn't enough)!  Cellulite–your arse is mine!  Wait a minute, that doesn't sound nearly as threatening as I intended.  Confused

Lynne, Sessie–thanks for the introductions.  I'm excited you are on the case with us! Lynn, I absolutely LOVE the affirmation you came up with.

Hello cellulite, thank you for coming to tell me that something isn't going quite right with me. Now let's see what we can do about that.

I think it's brilliant!  That is the attitude I learned to adopt towards my acne just before I stumbled across the cure

Sessie, you sound like your way too hard on yourself. You should add that to your list of things you need to work on.  Wink  I like the idea of having a thread about hormones so we can compare notes.  Have you ever tracked your basal body temperature? I learned a lot about my hormones by doing that.
