We are 3.5 weeks through the "Cupping for Cellulite" challenge.  I almost didn't make it to the end!

On Wednesday, I left for Florida straight after work.  Halfway through my commute that morning, I realized that I had left my body cups at home.  I used them in the shower that morning as usual, and then forgot to put them in my toiletry bag.  But don't worry, being the dedicated cellulite investigator that I am, I turned around and drove 30 minutes back home to get them!  I was over an hour late to work, but it was worth it.

Our 30 day challenge is up on Tuesday.  Check back then to read my final report!

My contribution:

I had purchased the cups right about the time the challenge was announced and have faithfully cupped everyday since Jan 22. I must say they did improve the cellulite, but unfortunately, the majority of it is still there. I really do think that finding your "kryptonite" is the key to ridding oneself of cellulite for good and what may work for one may not for another.

By process of elimination I have (all of which have helped, but have not completely
eliminated the cellulite):

1. Low carb diet 2. Whole foods/no processed food 3. Fish oil 4. Monosodium Glutamate 5. Adrenal support supplements (food brand) 6. Immune support supplement (food brand) 7. Bikram yoga (I lost
75% of my cellulite doing this exercise and it has made the largest lasting impact to date) 8. Lost 60 LBS 9. Caffeine cream 10. Started juicing as a supplement 1x a day 11. Guam Mud (helps slightly short term 12. Bellabaci cups
used since Jan 22 20+ min a day (slight improvement but returns to previous state when sick or when I get "my monthly").

Unfortunately, the most unsightly 25% is still here–the biggest and deepest cellulite remains.  I am going to continue to cup and see if over time the last 25% will continue to be reduced. Some things I have noticed over this past few weeks cupping:  When I got sick, or "my monthly" the cellulite appeared twice as bad regardless of cup use, mud use, and yoga classes (where I can sweat out 2-3 Ibs a class). I do not believe water retention is my issue, and I am beginning to suspect hormones.

Why do I suspect hormones?  I am 36, my cellulite is hereditary, and although I do drink a cup of coffee a day, have in the past smoked (smoke free for  7 years now), have been overweight, have eaten poorly–I have always had cellulite, I have curvy figure, my mother also has the same issue as does my daughter, and after everything I tried the cellulite still remains, and becomes SO much worse one a month so–hormones seem a likely suspect. I must add that I have never taken oral contraceptives (as breast cancer runs in our family), I don't drink, and live a clean lifestyle.

So where to go from here? I am a meat eater, and I very aware of the hormones that they pump into these animals, the pharmaceutical drugs in our water (that can not be filtered out), and many other environmental factors that may contribute to immune dysfunction.  It seems like and endless minefield.

Any suggestions for balancing hormones? Or improving immune function?  I think I am going to have to go organic
(expensive and prohibitive in some cases), and find a reliable source of drinking water. Easier said than done!

Thanks for all your hard work,

Shirley

Hey there Shirley, I am right there with you in suspecting that hormones play a very major role, for some people more than others. Especially with such a notable difference around "that time," that sounds like very valuable evidence! I think one of the first steps is awareness of all the sources various endocrine disruptors can come from (not only in the diet but externally), and then re-evaluating what we can and can't live without.

I'd love to be able to help build this conversation. Shall we start a new topic or thread somewhere? I wonder where we should put it?

I suspect hormones as well… Here's one vote for a thread on it. :)

Here is my assessment from my experience with the 30-day Cupping for Cellulite challenge.

I did not notice a visible effect on my cellulite…  UNTIL week 4.  I was in Florida with my significant other for the last week of the challenge. I wore a dress one day and he asked if I was using the cups on my calves because they looked really good!  I checked them out and he was right.  Even when I crossed my legs and pushed up on the calf muscle, they didn’t look all soft and dimply like they used to.

The rest of my legs don't seem to have changed much, but maybe the improvements are working their way up???  Of course I can't stop using the cups now–I need to find out if they just need more time to do their thing! So I'm extending my challenge for another 30 days. I hope you will join me!

I totally agree with shirleyyogi that finding the source of your "kryptonite" is key.  Since I suspect my kryptonite is fluoride, I am going to integrate my cupping efforts with my fluoride detox.  In addition to the 10 minutes of cupping, I'm going to try using homemade chicken broth to detox fluoride from my system.  The trick is going to be figuring out how much broth I can drink per day without triggering a reaction. The best way I can think of is to start really slow (I'm talking, half a cup every other day) and work up from there.

My hypothesis is that the broth will unlock the fluoride from my body and then cupping will help my body get rid of it, as long as I don't overwhelm my lymphatic system with too much displaced fluoride at once.

Who's still with me on the cupping challenge? How are you ramping up your efforts this time around?

I am still going with it. I may do this for the rest of my life. After 2 months, it's much much better. I even went into the dreaded dressing room with the dreadful lights and it was bearable to look at the back of my legs! So I want to keep this up as part of my daily regimen. It can only get better from here or at least not get any worse.

That is great to hear, Elizabeth!!!  I am starting to wonder if my upper legs now are looking smoother.  I am going to keep at it and see how much improvement these little cups can bring about.  I'm also drinking bone broth, but only a couple times a week. The occasional prune rounds out my fluoride detox strategy.  Please do report back and let us know if you continue to see changes or not. Thanks!

I used up all my grape seed oil so I started using castor oil for my cupping routine.  A few people mentioned it recently on the site for it's lymph healing properties.  It's really thick so I like applying it during my cupping session.  By the time I get out of the shower I can get dressed without having to wait for it to soak in.  I haven't noticed any direct effects from it one way or the other.

However, there is some definition in my quad I didn't notice before.  It's right above my knee on the inside of my leg.  I don't remember being able to see my muscle there before.  The cupping did seem to relieve a lot of congestion around my knee.  It used to be very sore both below and above my knee, but that is long gone since I've been doing the cupping.

Has anyone else noticed more definition in their legs since they started cupping?

I've noticed more muscle definition after about 6 weeks of cupping. I've slacked off a bit after a month of faithful cupping, but I definitely had a lot of improvements in overall dimpling. I always check my legs in front of a window because the harsh natural light shows everything and I can tell that it doesn't look nearly as awful as before:)
Re: castor oil- I read that castor oil (and castor oil packs) are good for stretch marks, so I've just started using it on my hips where I have stretch marks.

This is great news, Hazyjane! I love knowing I'm not the only one noticing these things. I've been cupping for a while now and the results still aren't obvious–my legs feel better more than they look better. I'm hoping that feeling will translate into physical reality in the near future. Observations like yours give me hope. Thanks for sharing!

Found you guys online and ordered the Bellabaci set from amazon.com. There is a special promotion, when you buy the "Professional Therapist Kit," then you get a Body Cup set for free. I can't wait to join you all, and get started for the first time with cupping! I first heard of lymphatic detox and dry brushing from the book called the Fat Flush plan. Take care!

I'm always happy when we get another cellulite sleuth on the job! Fat Flush was on our featured reading list a while back. You'll find a few posts about it on the blog. She covers a lot of good points.

I'm eager to hear what you think of the cupping therapy. Are you using the professional therapist kit as a massage therapist, or did you buy the whole thing for personal use?

Bellabaci just posted this video on their facebook page

feature=share

there is a woman who has been using the cups for 8 weeks along with drinking nettle tea, exercising & drinking lots of water. She documents her results on video. She is having some success! Check it out (I just watched all of the videos, she al

so shows how to use the cups).

Great find, Sessie! It seems 1-2 months is the minimal time frame to see effects with the Bellabaci cups. That's so impressive to me. Self cupping therapy is so much more economical than any salon treatment for cellulite AND it seems to produce more consistent results.

A while back, the Bellabaci team expressed interest in providing some kind of giveaway or incentive for people who provided before and after pics for their marketing material. If any of you want to document your progress and share the pics (or video, if you prefer), please let me know and I'll see if I can arrange something for that. Bellabaci is developing a luxury line of essential oil products so perhaps the prize could be something along those lines? Let me know what you think.

In regards to my post above, I bought the entire therapist kit (amazon.com), just for personal use, and because it was a great deal, with the other free kit and all!
This is my first go at cupping ever! I've dry brushed in the past with good success at getting rid of cellulite, but wanted to give this a try as well because it seems that the results I'm reading about come quicker than with dry brushing.
When you all first started out, did it hurt? Ouch! I lessened my suction to where I can tolerate it. Will I get used to it? Thanks for your help and insight. So glad I found this site!!

Yes, my legs were really tender when I first started cupping, especially my calves. Now I use the strongest suction and it feels really nice.  It only took a few weeks to get used to it.

Sadly, I am in the market for a new set of cups.  During my last trip to Florida, my dog chewed up one of my Bellabaci cups.  Must have been the coconut oil residue!  She ate the one with the stronger suction too, which is the one I like the best.  People have been asking about the cheaper cups on Ebay so perhaps this is a good opportunity to test them.

Hi Melissa, The cup that I use was very inexpensive ($17 incl. shipping) and is really nice.  I found it here: http://www.vaccups.eu/shop/pag…..p_param=  And I received it 6 days after order, so even though they said it could take longer, they were very fast.  Maybe this would be a good replacement for your doggie-chewed cup.  :)

I wanted to ask a question…if you have varicose veins or spider veins, do you find that they are getting worse?  I had hoped mine would improve and I've only been faithfully, daily using my cup for about 10 days, but I feel like my veins are getting worse.  I am hoping I just didn't notice before the ones I am seeing more now, but figured that if you all are doing this, maybe you have an experience to share?  I do notice that whenever I go over the areas where the veins are, it is more uncomfortable.

Also, do you all focus on your saddlebags or do you cover every inch of your legs?  For lymphatic drainage purposes, I wonder where I should spend more time.  Thanks!

Thanks for the link, Angelina!  That price is great!  Which size cup are you using?  It's interesting that they have different sizes and shapes.

Good question about the spider vein issue. I have a disproportionate amount of spider veins (in my opinion!) so I was hesitant about this, too.  During my interview with Keren Trabelsi, creator of the Bellabaci cups, I asked her about their application for spider veins.  She said they are a great treatment for spider veins because they improve circulation and bring nutrients to dead and dying blood vessels.  I've been cupping for a few months now and my spider veins don't seem to be getting worse, although they don't seem to be getting better either.

I can't say for certain that cupping won't increase spider veins, though. I need to watch it for a while longer.  Does anyone else have observations to share about this?

And during my 10 minute cupping session in the morning, I pretty much cover my whole legs. You could focus on certain areas if you just have a few trouble spots, though.
