Lunaception Chart

In this month’s Cellulite Book-of-the-Month, Lunaception by Louise Lacey, we’re discussing the possibility of using specific night-lighting techniques to align the menstrual cycle with the phases of the moon.

Last week, I posted two charts tracking my cycle alongside the lunar cycle. This data was collected before I read Lunaception (so I was not using the lighting approach to regulate ovulation) but I am intrigued by how my cycle started to fall in line with the lunar rhythm the more I improved my diet and avoided certain chemicals known to disrupt hormonal balance, such as fluoride.

The comments from last week’s post give me even more reason to be intrigued by the Lunaception theory. I’m starting my first round of special night-lighting this week. I’ll be sure to chart my progress and let you know how it goes. If you are interested in experimenting along with me, you can download a Lunaception chart for 2010 at the following link.

I will also make a chart for 2011 and post it before the end of the year.

Instructions for Charting Your Menstrual Cycle with the Moon

Charting your menstrual cycle with the moon is simple, but it does require patience.  The chart will open in Microsoft Excel with the dates already filled in the first column. The second column (the pink one) is where you will record the date of ovulation and the first day of menstruation. Next to the date of ovulation, enter a 15.  Next to the first day of menstruation, enter a 5.  The chart will automatically update each time you enter new data. To view the chart, select the tab labeled “Lunaception Chart” from the bottom of the workbook.

I also included a chart for tracking your Basal Body Temperature (see, The Broda Barnes Self-Test for Thyroid Deficiency). To use this chart, simply enter your waking temperature into the third column (the purple one). As with the Lunaception chart, this chart will automatically update. You can view it by selecting the tab labeled “Temperature Chart” at the bottom of the workbook. I included a circle to mark the date of the full moon so you can tell at a glance if an increase in temperature coincides with the lunar rhythm.

If you have a request for how to improve the charts, please let me know. And if you do use them, please let me know how your adventures in Lunaception turn out. I am eager to get to the bottom of this mystery!

I’m so glad I stumbled upon your site! I’ve actually been doing Lunaception for about 2 months now. However, I had decided to sleep 3 months solid in darkness before turning on any lights as recommended by Joy DeFelice, who did some clinical trials on how light effects the menstrual cycle. In an email that Louise Lacey sent to a member on another board, she also stated to sleep 3 months in darkness before turning on any lights. So that’s what I decided to do. I have 1 more month left and plan on introducing light into my cycles on Dec. 20th (the day right before the full moon).

I’ve been documenting my experience over on my blog at http://www.LunaceptionChronicle.blogspot.com . So far Lunaception hasn’t been doing much for me as I’m on day 109 of my cycle, definitely my longest cycle in a while. We’ll see how it goes though once I start turning on the lights next month.

I also posted on my blog some useful websites and resources that I found. It may be worthwhile looking at (if you haven’t already). I also explain over there the my setup and exactly what I’m doing. Maybe it could help you in your research? In any case, I would love to see some more testimonials! :)

Lorraine, I’m so glad you found us, too! Like you, I’m really curious about this theory and eager to test it out for myself. It will be good to have someone to compare notes with. I’ve been sleeping in darkness since May and last night was the first time I tried to use night-lighting. It was tough! I sleep so well when it’s pitch black. I kept waking up thinking it was the morning already. I will definitely check out the resources you mention on your blog. Thanks for dropping by!
