Another month, another BOTM. This month’s Cellulite Book-of-the-Month is The Cellulite Cure by Dr. Lionel Bissoon.
To be a part of our cellulite BOTM research group, pick up a copy of the book (this one is pricey, but I bought it used from Amazon for $13) and read along this month or simply submit your questions/comments at the end of each post.
Who is Dr. Lionel Bissoon?
Dr. Bissoon, a former flight surgeon in the United States Air Force, completed his residency in Sports Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical School before settling into his practice in Physiatry.
He became interested in the subject of cellulite when one of his patients, intent on receiving an anti cellulite treatment called Mesotherapy not yet available in the U.S., telephoned the French Society of Mesotherapy to see if they would accept an American physician interested in training. She told him he simply HAD to learn the procedure. “It will change your life,” she said.
Dr. Bissoon traveled to France and studied under renowned mesotherapy practitioners Drs. Jacques Le Coz, Christian Chams, Albert Benouish, Maurice Drae and Elizabeth Dancey, author of The Cellulite Solution. He returned to the States and opened mesotherapy clinics in Florida, California, and New York. He is widely credited with bringing this procedure to the U.S. market.
What is His Approach to Treating Cellulite?
Mesotherapy involves delivering microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medications and/or vitamins under the skin to directly treat cellulite. You’ve got it, ladies –this procedure involves needles. Lots of needles! In each mesotherapy session, multiple injections are administered in rows one inch apart throughout the affected area.
We will discuss more questions about mesotherapy during this month’s Cellulite BOTM posts. Is it safe? Is it effective? Is it FDA approved? But before we get into any of that, next week we’ll talk about an important lifestyle change Dr. Bissoon insists all his patients agree to before they undergo treatment. It doesn’t involve diet OR exercise. Are you guilty of this cellulite-related crime?
Have you tried mesotherapy or are you curious about the procedure? Please add your comments and questions below.
Are you battling the blight solo? Cellulite investigating is much more fun (and effective) when you're not going at it alone.
