Here at the Cellulite Investigation, I try not to focus too much attention on over-exposed, cellulite-stricken celebrities. But I do think there is some valuable information to be gleaned from their well-documented struggle with the blight.

In  recent interviews, Kim Kardashian admits that she can’t get rid of her cellulite no matter what she does. “I do everything I can in my power to fix it. I never said cellulite was cute. But I have it. I embrace it, I’m okay with it.”

Here are some of the cellulite solutions Kim has tried:

  • In 2008, Kim documented her first Velashape laser treatment on her reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians (you can watch the clip on Youtube). She seemed pleased with the results at the time, but her battle with cellulite continued.,

  • In mid 2009, Kim partnered with Nivea in the Nivea “Goodbye Cellulite, Hello Bikini” Challenge, a four-week holistic program that combines fitness and nutrition efforts with Nivea Goodbye Cellulite gel-creme and patches. She seemed pleased with the results at the time, but her battle with cellulite continued.

  • Her next strategy featured a new line of QuickTrim products, with names like QuickTrim Fast Cleanse, Celluslim, and Burn and Cleanse 14 Day Diet System. She seems happy with her weight loss, but doesn’t even pretend that using QuickTrim helped to reduce her cellulite.

Her latest anti-cellulite plan is to set her alarm, get up early, and go to the gym.  This isn’t a new strategy for Kim, but it’s the one we all fall back on when we’re frustrated with the results we’re seeing. It’s easy to think, “I’m just not working out hard enough.” But based on our research here at CI, if Kim doesn’t eliminate the cause of her cellulite, she is unlikely to see lasting results –no matter how much weight she loses or how many product endorsements come her way.

And in case you thought celebrity cellulite victims were an entirely different breed from the rest of us, Kim adds, “I just wasn’t comfortable in a bikini. I always wore a sarong. I don’t want to always feel uncomfortable.” Sound familiar?

This may sound a bit harsh, but I tire of seeing photos of Kim in her bikini. They are all over tabloids in the grocery store. You mean plastic surgery can't fix her cellulite woes? No body looks like that after having a baby unless you have surgery. And, like most celeb photos I'm sure hers are touched up. So when she complains about cellulite I really have no sympathy.

Totally understandable viewpoint! You're right, her photos are touched up. There was a big hulabaloo awhile back when a magazine "accidentally" posted the unphotoshopped version of her bikini pics online and everyone could see her cellulite. I think her situation is strong evidence that plastic surgery isn't an effective treatment for cellulite (otherwise, she would have tried that already). Even lipo isn't a good option because it doesn't target the subcutaneous fat cells where cellulite develops. According to Dr. Lionel Bissoon, author of The Cellulite Cure, any doc who says lipo is effective at treating cellulite is being unethical. That's a pretty strong accusation on his part, don't you think? Thanks for your comment!
